AI tasks and usage

What counts as an AI task, what's included, and how to control spending

A task is one piece of work you handed to your assistant. Your workspace gets 500 of them per seat every month, shared across everyone on the team.

What counts as a task

Three kinds of work count, and only when the assistant actually does something.

  • A chat message. Every message you send your assistant in the app.
  • A text message. Every text you send it.
  • An inbound email it works on. Mail arrives and the assistant drafts a reply or files an attachment.

A back-and-forth of five chat messages is five tasks, not one. An email is never more than one task, even when the assistant files a document and drafts a reply in the same pass.

What doesn't count

  • Reading your inbox. Your assistant sorts and reads everything that arrives, all month, at no cost. A task only starts when it drafts something or files a document.
  • Anything you do yourself. Adding a contact, sending your own email, uploading a document, browsing your transactions.
  • Automations. Scheduled and triggered automations don't use tasks.
  • Work that fails. If a task errors out, you aren't charged for it.

What's included

500 tasks per seat, per month, pooled. A workspace with three seats gets 1,500 tasks that anyone can use, not 500 each.

Your count resets on the 1st of the month, not on the date you subscribed.

What happens when you run out

By default, nothing costs extra and nothing surprises you. When your workspace uses all its included tasks, the assistant stops taking new ones until the month resets. Automations pause too.

Everything else keeps working. Your transactions, contacts, documents, email, and calendar are all still there, and you can do any of it by hand.

Turning on pay-as-you-go

If you'd rather keep going than wait for the reset, go to Settings > Billing and click the pencil next to Pay-as-you-go. There are three options.

  • Off. The default. Tasks pause at your included amount, and you're never billed past your seats.
  • Set a cap. Extra tasks bill at $0.12 each, up to a dollar limit you choose. Tasks pause when you reach it.
  • Unlimited. Extra tasks bill at $0.12 each with no limit.

Raising or removing a cap starts tasks again right away. Only owners and admins can see billing or change this.

The emails you'll get

Owners and admins get up to three notices a month, once each.

  • When the workspace has used 80% of its included tasks.
  • When it passes the included amount and extra tasks start billing.
  • When it reaches the spending cap and tasks pause.

The 80% mark is fixed and can't be changed.

Checking your usage

Settings > Billing shows how many tasks you've used, what any overage has cost so far, the date your count resets, and your current pay-as-you-go setting.
