Connect Claude

Let Claude read your workspace so you can ask about your book of business anywhere

Every other connection in Backhouse points inward. You link Gmail, and Backhouse reads it. Claude is the one that runs the other way. You connect it once, and then Claude can read your contacts, transactions, listings, and MLS data from wherever you already use it.

This is worth doing if you live in Claude. Ask it to draft a listing description with the real property details, pull the numbers on a transaction into a client update, or answer "which of my buyers is still looking under 500" without you going and looking. Your assistant inside Backhouse can already do all of this. The connector is for the times you're somewhere else.

How to connect

  1. Go to Settings > Connected tools
  2. Under Use Backhouse elsewhere, click Connect on the Claude card, then Connect Claude in the dialog that lays out what Claude gets
  3. Claude opens in a new tab with the connector already filled in. Leave the client ID and secret under Advanced settings blank, we don't need them
  4. Claude sends you back to Backhouse to sign in, and the approval opens over the same card you started from
  5. Approve, and the card reads Connected

The approval tells you which app is asking, which workspace it's asking for, and what it gets. Read it. It's the only place you're asked, and it's the same step for any AI client, not just Claude.

What Claude can see

  • Your contacts. Search by name, pull up a full record with their notes and history.
  • Your transactions. Stage, key dates, members, terms, and what's still outstanding.
  • Your listings. The seller-side campaigns your workspace owns.
  • MLS listings. Search by MLS number or address, on the boards your brokerage has activated. If your workspace hasn't activated a board yet, Claude will say so rather than guess. See MLS data.

What Claude can't do

The connection is read-only. Claude can look at your workspace, and that's the whole list. It can't create a contact, edit a transaction, upload a document, or send anything to a client. If you want work done rather than answers, that's your Backhouse assistant.

It also can't see past your own permissions. Claude reads your workspace as you, so a record that's hidden from you in Backhouse stays hidden from Claude. Connecting it doesn't widen what you have access to.

If you're in more than one workspace

Right now a connection lands on one workspace, the oldest one you belong to, and there's no way to pick. If you're in two brokerages, Claude sees the first one. It won't quietly pretend the other doesn't exist, it'll tell you a record isn't in the workspace it can see. Being able to choose is on the list.

Disconnecting

Go to Settings > Connected tools, open the ··· menu on the Claude card, and click Disconnect. Access stops immediately.

Each client is listed separately, so Claude on the web and Claude Code show up as two connections and disconnect on their own. Reconnecting means approving again.

Claude Code

Claude Code connects from the terminal instead of the connector dialog. Point it at the same server and it runs the sign-in itself.

Everything above still applies. Same approval, same read-only access, same Disconnect in Connected tools.
